The first Human Powered Speed Championships event was held in 1975, and have been held annually ever since. The events have been held in numerous locations, but the championships have almost always been hosted in sunny southern California. 1983's event was held in Irvine at Orange County International Raceway, where riders on bicycles, tricycles, and quadcycles came from around the world to compete, with a tandem team clocking the weekend's top speed of 57.90 mph.

One of my favorite annual events here in Toronto , The St. Lawrence Market Criterium (sometimes referred to in the past as The Toronto Criterium). A section of downtown is closed to traffic and a 1km race course is constructed. The average time to complete the 1km is just under one minute! Great fun to build and to ride this bike just on special occasions like Sky rides or to pop to the local shops. The reverse brake levers, dimpled full aluminium mudguards and fancy aluminium chain stay all pay homage to the humble French Porteur bicycles of the 50s and 60s. The painting has two coats of protective professional varnish and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity. The canvas is painted on the sides and supplied with fixtures and fittings so its ready to hang with or without a frame. Its shipped in a carefully packed protective box with in a box.

My first racing bike was a Lilac Carlton Corsa, this is a modified version in aqua similar to the Equipe colourway. It still sports the Weinmann centre pull brakes but everything else has been altered, including the dimpled French style full aluminium mudguards, cream Schwalbe Delta Cruiser tyres and leather Brooks Swallow saddle. I really enjoyed recreating the chrome effect in paint, so popular on 60s and 70s bicycles.
