An 1893 advertisement for Stereopticons and Lantern Slides produced by the McIntosh Battery & Optical Company of Chicago Illinois. Long before modern travel, movies, television and the internet people could view a wide range of subjects using ' Lantern Slides ' with a Stereopticon. These lantern slides were photographic and were sometimes hand painted. From education to travel to humor, most subjects were available for viewing using the Stereopticon. They became so popular that one could visit galleries, pay a modest fee and view lantern slides by subject. I have a few different colors available.

The "coquero" (coca chewer) figures were made from gold or clay by a Pre-Columbian South American people called the Capulí. This indigenous group originated from the Andean region in what is now northern Ecuador and southern Colombia (department of Nariño). The chewing of coca, shown by the budged cheek of the man sitting on the bench, is believed to be tied to mystical rituals.
