This image depicts the Stradun, the main street in the old city of Dubrovnik. The city is like a medieval theme park; everything seems to be as it was, except, that is, the thronging masses of tourists. My image was captured from the massive wall that surrounds the old city, from just above the main gate.

Inside the main gate to the medieval city of Dubrovnik is a 14th century church and monastery. A centre piece of this complex is the wonderful cloisters and courtyard. My image focuses on some the columns that surround the courtyard. I loved their architectural whimsy, in that the capitals of each of the columns was different. At a casual glance you might see them as being the same, but looking more closely they were all variations on a theme. Overall, I loved the feeling of coolness within the cloisters from the hot Sun and the semi-tropical luxuriance of the courtyard. I hope you do too!

This is the Stradun, Dubrovnik's main street, in the early evening. The tourists stroll along the polished stone pavement in search of a restaurant, a souvenir, a memory of their time in this extraordinary, medieval city. The mood is exciting; people are exploring and enjoying their time in this enchanting place. I love this image, and I hope you do too!

It was a rainy day in Dubrovnik. It was early May, so the tourist season wasn't yet in full swing, but those who were there were out enjoying a stroll along the Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik's old city. Umbrellas and plastic raincoats abounded. These tourists were out to take in this medieval time capsule as best as they could.

This image depicts the bell and clock that sit above the courtyard in the Rector's Palace in Dubrovnik. I love the symmetry in this image and the incredible contrast between the deep blue sky and the alabaster-like quality of the stonework. A sight to behold.

It was a damp, overcast day as we walked along the Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik's old city. We had been told by a guide a few days earlier that the old shop fronts incorporated an entrance way and a serving hatch, so the shops were quite small with many of these lined up along the building. Of course time has moved on so several of these old shops could now be one business. In this instance, "Leandro" is a fairly high-end business that mainly caters to tourists with a taste for a new watch. The entrance was a door or two along. In capturing the image, I wanted to capture the unique framing of the shop front, the wonderful limestone on the face of the building and street, but also highlight the window display. Walking the walls of Dubrovnik is one of the most touristy things you can do in the city, but for me, it was also one of the most enjoyable. Not only did I spend half of my walk on a Game of Thrones tour learning about how the city had been used as the backdrop for King's Landing, but I also got to see stunning views of the city's red roofs and of the Adriatic Sea beyond.
