Chumley's was a historic pub and former speakeasy at 86 Bedford Street, between Grove and Barrow Streets, in the West Village neighborhood of Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 1922 by the socialist activist Leland Stanford Chumley, who converted a former blacksmith's shop near the corner of Bedford and Barrow Streets into a Prohibition-era drinking establishment. The speakeasy became a favorite spot for influential writers, poets, playwrights, journalists, and activists, including members of the Lost Generation and the Beat Generation movements.

The Famous Door was a jazz club on New York's 52nd Street. It opened in 1935 and was one of the major clubs on the street, hosting leading jazz musicians until 1950, through changes of location and periods of closure. The Famous Door opened at 35 West 52nd Street on March 1, 1935. Among its initial backers were the radio bandleader Lennie Hayton, who helped promote it, and musicians Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. Louis Prima performed on the club's opening night. The club was intended to provide a reliable venue for swing musicians and a place where they could gather, but other customers were attracted by the door inside (autographed by visiting celebrities) which gave the club its name, the fine music, and drinks that started at fifty cent

The beer brewing industry in Davenport got its start after large numbers of German immigrants arrived in Davenport in the 1850s.[2] The larger breweries developed after the end of the American Civil War. Five breweries were functioning in the city: Mathias Frahm and Son, Koehler and Lange (also known as Arsenal Brewery), Littig Brothers (later Mengel and Klindt and Eagle Brewery), Julius Lehrkind's Brewery and Zoller Brothers. They all distributed their beer mainly in Davenport, Rock Island, Illinois and Moline, Illinois.

The Storz Brewing Company was located at 1807 North 16th Street in North Omaha, Nebraska. Storz Brewing began in 1876 by Gottlieb Storz and was owned by the Storz family until 1966; the brewery ceased operations in 1972. Their beers won several prizes in international competitions, and Storz was the top selling brand in Nebraska starting in World War II. Storz was one of the "Big 4" brewers located in Omaha, which also included the Krug, Willow Springs and Metz breweries.

Originally Consumers' Brewing Company, Harvard Brewing Company was formed in 1898 in Lowell Massachusetts. The passage of the Eighteenth Amendment in 1919, declaring the sale of alcoholic drinks to be illegal, sent the brewery scurrying to recast itself as a viable business. The name changed to the Harvard Company, the brewery began offering non-intoxicating beverages such as root beer, ginger ale, grape juice and "near-beer." After prohibition the company thrived until anti-German sentiment led to federal takeover of the company which was ultimately sold to Hampden Brewing in 1956.
