Sapphic T-Shirts
Description: This is the new flag gaining popularity now since the shades of pink lesbian flag is hard to make in fiber, was only designed with femme/lipstick lesbians in mind, and had some other problems. I love this way of representing the flags because even if someone doesn't know what the colors mean, the symbols clue them in. Also, it gives me a great opportunity as an artist to bring up some LGBTQ history. The naval star is an old queer code - butches used to have it tattooed on one wrist as a signal and hidden under a broad watch band.
Description: A poem by Sappho of Lesbos, circa 630 BC. Sappho is a powerful symbol to women who love other women, and her poems are still as beautiful now as they were two and a half thousand years ago. Translation from Sappho: A New Translation of the Complete Works, Diane Rayor.
