Referred to as the fraud of the Century by bitter democrats the election of 1876 was beset with claims of voter fraud mainly in Florida drawing parallels with the Bush Gore fiasco of 2000. The 1876 compromise which put the Republican into the presidency is regarded by many as the undoing of the hard won rights for African Americans brought about by the Civil war victory of just 11 years before, paving the way for the states themselves to determine the status of their Non White electorate.
