Anarchy Designs Tank Tops
Description: A little watercolour style doodle I painted a few weeks ago... The word anarchy comes from the ancient Greek ἀναρχία (anarchia), which combines ἀ (a), "not, without" and ἀρχή (arkhi), "ruler, leader, authority." Anarchy, in its truest form, has nothing to do with violence and chaos and everything to do with self-governance; nothing to do with wilfully destructive behaviour and everything to do with a profound sense of personal responsibility and with nurturing the capacity for such. Anarchy is NOT 'every man for himself' - it is, "We are all in this together - let's behave accordingly." Description: According to the IWW: The Black Cat -- traditionally drawn as angry with claws bared, arched back, and a brushy tail (pictured, right) -- has long been one of the symbols of the IWW. It was probably conceived by IWW member Ralph Chaplin (most famous for penning the IWW / labor anthem "Solidarity Forever"), who produced many of the IWW's early "slient agitator" graphics which -- themselves -- had a close association with hobo signs. We like to combine anarchist symbols and quotes with the visual art of anarchists like William Morris. Our goal is to create beautiful and accessible ways to approach the philosophy of Mutual Aid.
