Description: Santa Catalina Island, one of eight islands in California’s Channel Island Archipelago, lies southwest of Los Angeles. It's known for its wildlife, dive sites and Mt. Orizaba, its highest peak. The resort town of Two Harbors lies to the north. To the south, in the city of Avalon, palm trees and cabanas line Descanso Beach. Avalon’s circular, art deco Catalina Casino is a cultural center with a movie theater, ballroom, and museum. This souvenir style design is a throwback to that family trip to Catalina Island in the '80s.

Description: Frank Butler had a dream. In July 1969, he designed and built the first Catalina 22 in North Hollywood, California. This petite, family-friendly cruising sailing sloop was his fledgling company’s inaugural boat. Met with runaway success, Catalina Yachts launched the Catalina 27 and shortly thereafter the Catalina 30. By February 1975, Butler’s projected construction of 100 Catalina 22s had been exceeded, with an astonishing 5,000 hulls in the water. The Catalina is one of the most popular sailboats on the water, and what many used to learn to sail. This drawing is a celebration of that shared experience.
