This is a simple design from a watercolor painting I did of the Grotto Mokanna. If one looks closely, a slight grin is detected on this Mokanna's face. The Grotto is known for a being a fun organization with a great philanthropy so I thought a softer look on the Mokanna's face, but still one of dignity, was warranted.

In my continuous effort to create "the new & different"... I pondered Grottoish. Yes Grottoish, an odd amalgamation of Grotto and Irish (St. Paddy's Day in mind) with a spin on the ever popular saying "Kiss me I'm Irish". Soooo... using my version/creation of The Grotto Mokannah, and some imagination, here is my addition to The Wearin' O' The Green attire for the Grotto man. :-)

I got a communication from a fellow Grotto member from Zelmar Grotto in Tennessee. In it he asked if I'd use my original watercolor version illustration of the Grotto Mokanna and make a design for Zelmar use. His wish was my command. :-)

Bernadette Soubirous reported the Marian Apparitions at Lourdes, France at the grotto of Massabielle in 1858. The Roman Catholic Church, declared the apparitions to be worthy of belief after a canonical investigation, and the apparition is known as Our Lady of Lourdes. In 1958, Pope Pius XII issued the encyclical Le pelerinage de Lourdes The pilgrimage to Lourdes on the 100th anniversary of the apparitions. Pope John Paul II visited Lourdes three times; Pope Benedict XVI visited Lourdes on 15 September 2008 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions. Soubirous was canonized a saint in 1933 by Pope Pius XI. Miracles, miraculous healing are reported through the Holy Water and Rosary Prayers.
