Description: Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi on a vintage Kenya postage stamp. He led the Kenya Land and Freedom Army (Mau Mau) in the fight against British colonial rule in the 1950s. The design has a red perforated stamp border with Kenya flags, a red "KENYA" header, a green name caption, a halftone portrait in a dashiki, and a Kenya flag fingerprint. Dedan Kimathi was born in Nyeri on 31 October 1920. As the senior military leader of the Kenya Land and Freedom Army, he convened a war council in 1953 and helped give the movement a formal command structure. He was captured in 1956 and executed on 18 February 1957. Kenya now honors him as a national hero of the struggle for land and freedom.
Description: The colobus monkey fur headdress is what makes a Nandi warrior instantly recognizable — that and the patterned cowhide shield. Wanted to get both right here. Forest green and rust instead of the warmer tones in the rest of the set, giving this one a slightly different, more grounded feel.
