Description: This is a mon I saw on the hanten of the Komagata team during the recent Sanja Matsuri. The Sanja Matsuri is one of the three largest Shinto festivals of Tokyo. The mon looks like an ancient wooden wheel where the rim is fat and made in sections. It creates a pleasing geometric pattern. The mon is similar to the coat of arms from European heraldic tradition. Although, there is a big difference, the mon stays clean and minimalistic in design. European crests tend to get very complicated by combining other family crests over the generations.
