Combined images - the Milky Way Galaxy is a stitch of six overlapping photos. This was then resized and replaced the sky of Aoraki/Mt Cook. The latter was darkened to make it look like night. This is a creative work, and it would never appear like this in real life Sony A6300, 25 second exposures for night sky.

This memorial commemorates more than 100 climbers who have died in the New Zealand Aoraki/Mt Cook area in the past. It is a fitting reminder of the dangers of mountain climbing. This is one of many photos taken on our truly amazing 6 hour walk up the Hooker Valley from the Mt Cook centre to Hooker Lake and Glacier. That walk was for me about the most spectacular scenery that I have ever seen, outranking that of what I saw in Canada. The memorial is close to the start of the walk. Hooker Valley in New Zealand South Island is between Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Cook Village. The trail along the valley is one of the most spectacular places on earth and on this winter's day, it was brilliant sunshine. I converted the original colour to B&W as it gives a far more dramatic effect. Using a red filter darkens the sky and I changed it to be completely black.
