Hephaestus is the Greek god of blacksmiths, metalworking, carpenters, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes. Hephaestus' Roman equivalent is Vulcan. In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was either the son of Zeus and Hera or he was Hera's parthenogenous child. He was cast off Mount Olympus, by his mother because of his deformity or, in another account, by Zeus for protecting Hera from his advances.

This design really illustrates one of my passions, and that is horror movies. I love them! I am especially fond of the old movie monsters like Dracula, the Wolf Man, and in this case, Gillman, better known as the Creature from the Black Lagoon. What is also very special about this design is it showcases part of a woodcut block print that I created of Gillman. When it comes to the world of art and design, I believe that sometimes it is best to step away from the computer to get some of the the best inspiration. Fun Fact: France once experienced a Werewolf Epidemic. The Beasts of Gevaudan wreaked havoc in southern France in the 1760s. Accounts differ as to how many people were actually killed and devoured, but the number seems to be well over 100. The “werewolf” epidemic grew so out of control that the army, as well as expert huntsmen, were called in to find and kill the terrorizing animals. The beasts were described as wolf-like, but bigger. Theories abound as to the true nature of the dangerous animals roaming the hillsides.
