Even though these exotic and gorgeous bird-like flowers are native to South Africa and the tropics, many of my neighbors that live in Metairie, Lousiana grow them. I took this photo while on a walk in the neighborhood, I couldn't resist.

Strelitzia reginae: Common names include Strelitzia, Crane Flower or Bird of Paradise, though these names are also collectively applied to other species in the genus Strelitzia. Its scientific name commemorates Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of the United Kingdom. Canon 600d

This Bird of Paradise was in full bloom at Foster's Botanical Garden. A very impressive sight. I love the colors. And it really looks like some exotic bird.
