This image of a young woman and her mirror reflection is riotous in color and chockablock with pattern. It is one of the last in a major series of canvases that Picasso created between 1931 and 1932. According to The Museum of Modern Art’s founding director, Alfred H. Barr, Jr., Picasso said he “preferred this painting to any of the others,” which speaks to the painting’s dazzling visual and thematic complexity. Its primary subject is the time-honored artistic theme of a woman before her mirror, reinvented in strikingly modern terms. The Nexus-6 were a series of replicants developed by Eldon Tyrell and his genetic design team to be more human than all previous Nexus models. The Nexus-6 was produced by 2018, when a group of combat model Nexus-6 replicants staged a mutiny in the Off-world colonies. This event prompted replicants as a whole to be prohibited on Earth. The following year, a group of Nexus-6 replicants led by Roy Batty hijacked a transport and went to Earth in search of a way to extend their lifespans.

Hannibal Chew was designer of replicant eyes for the Tyrell Corporation. His work included the eyes of Roy Batty and Leon Kowalski. In November 2019, while working, Roy and Leon entered his workstation. At first, he was merely angered and shouted at them that it was illegal for them to enter, but he soon learned that they were replicants, as they were unaffected by the frozen conditions of his lab. Leon ripped open Chew's jacket, exposing him to the cold and interrogated him while he froze. Roy and Leon found out from him that J.F. Sebastian could get them into Eldon Tyrell's inner sanctum.

I asked Ash to create an artwork containing Ash, Bishop, Call, David and Walter. Ash was born and raised in Minnesota and grew up inhabiting a plethora of different nerdy microcosms. She is currently investing my time into a degree in Comic Art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, with the hopes to someday publish her own stories and work professionally.
