Charley Magruder’s, the north Atlanta club owned by Butch Weaver from the early 1980s through its demise in 1996, was the spot that attracted a motley procession of familiar faces, from Tommy Shaw of Styx to Lemmy of Motorhead to Butch Patrick (aka Eddie Munster) to members of Metallica — all of whom would swing by. It was a launching pad for many successful bands. The now defunct WKLS 96 Rock would host events there. Along with places like Turtle's Records and Tapes, CM was a safe haven for many an Atlantan to get their ROCK on!

Based in Georgia in the 80s, Fortnox could be described a storming power trio led by guitarist/vocalist Rick Fowler, who were signed to Epic records. In an enterprising move the label hooked them up with up with Chris Tsangarides (Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy) who took control of recording the band's sole album, in Atlanta. The results were remarkably impressive, leaving those who heard the recordings to predict big things for the band. The album received positive reviews but despite extensive touring, playing with the likes of Aerosmith, Cheap Trick and April Wine, support from the label began to dwindle, leaving the band vulnerable to forces beyond their control. WHAT IF THEY WOULD HAVE MADE IT and been honored on the HWOF?

This Morningside venue played host to Bo Diddley, the Ventures, Stevie Ray Vaughan and R.E.M. When the Stray Cats' first Atlanta show was delayed for hours by a Monday Night Football game on the big-screen TV, bandleader Brian Setzer quipped, "We'd like to thank the Dallas Cowboys for opening for us."

The Agora Ballroom was an Atlanta music venue that was formerly Alex Cooley’s Electric Ballroom. .The Agora closed in 1983 and burned down in 1987. Here are just a handful of acts that graced the stage; Devo, The Ramones, Sting, The Police, Muddy Waters, The B-52's.

Turtle's Records and Tapes was all the rave in Georgia and Florida back in the '80s and '90s! This medallion coin was worth $5 in purchases at the store! WKLS 96 Rock and Turtle's were big partners in Atlanta for all things ROCK MUSIC!

This 1958 Porsche Speedster carried the WKLS brand back in 1989!

Franklin Music was a store chain originally founded in 1968 by former Sam Goody employee Albert S. Franklin. The very first Franklin Music was opened inside Philadelphia's Echelon Mall. Hi-Fi equipment, Musical instruments, sheet music and records/tapes (8-track and cassettes) were sold in the store. The chain expanded to New Jersey and then to the Atlanta area. It dissolved into Camelot Music eventually.

Along with Turtle's Records and Tapes, the Time Zone arcade was the place to be at Hawthorne Plaza in Mableton, GA in the early 1980s! The arcade moved to Mableton Parkway close to Pebbblebrook High School in the mid-80s.
