Abandoned in New Mexico Near Capulin Volcano by Debra Martz I was traveling west on highway 87 in New Mexico, when I saw these abandoned buildings and windmill. The rising mountain in the background is Capulin Volcano National Monument. You can see the road cut into the side which winds to the other side to the top. This design was inspired by our Turkish urban legends episode, "Let's Hear It for the Girls," specifically the story about Sarikiz.

Sadly, Sandra was the only one to show up at the support group for those with abandonment issues.

Epictetus articulates a profound truth — true freedom is not attained by fulfilling desires but by relinquishing them altogether. Delve into this wisdom to understand the transformative power of detaching from desires, realizing that genuine liberation arises when one is unburdened by the relentless pursuit of fleeting wants.

Unresolved issues block our life force. When you overcome them, you let your energy flowing freely and it turns into a great power.

I discovered this old green abandoned house when I first moved to northern Oklahoma in 2019. Something about it has me taking photos each and every time I’m in the area. It’s the same yet always different as time and seasons go by. A design for all those Urban Explorers out there!

When I made my first visit to the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge in northern Oklahoma I didn't expect my first stop for photography would be an abandoned house and windmill with nature taking it back. But shortly after turning off hwy 38 onto the gravel road leading into the refuge, this scene captured my attention so had to stop. I marveled at what a beautiful home this had been in its day and wondered why it was left to deteriorate. Now, I feel the need to stop every time to see if I can capture it differently. An astronaut, lost in space, feels neglected and abandoned. Confronted with overwhelming loneliness, they search for meaning in their isolated existence amidst the vast darkness of the cosmos.

This Old House In Winter © Debra Martz I cannot just drive by this old house since finding it in 2019. It is always worth a stop to photograph and notice how it changes with age. The roof is dipping inward and the West wall (left) is leaning inward. But look at that chimney, it is still solid and straight!
