Depicting Mitsuhide in elegant accoutrements, with a book writen about the consequences of a ruler's disregard of his subjects, and his katana behind him. Behind is the kamon of Akechi clan, with calligraphy kanji of Akechi Mitsuhide, signature and seal of Kuniyoshi.
Description: Akechi Mitsuhide (明智光秀) was a samurai and general who lived during the Sengoku period of Feudal Japan. Mitsuhide was a general under Oda Nobunaga, who then became famous for his rebellion against Nobunaga in 1582, which led to Nobunaga's death at Honnoji in the Honnoji Insident. The kamon of Akechi clan is Tokikikyo (土岐桔梗) or "Japanese bellflower".

Description: The Akechi clan (明智) is a branch of the Toki clan, which is descended from the Seiwa Genji, thrived around the later part of the Sengoku period. The clan is known for the Head of clan, Akechi Mitsuhide who trapped Nobunaga at Honnō-ji and forced him to commit suicide. The Akechi then gained power due to the collapse of the Oda clan. Later that same year, Akechi Mitsuhide was slain at the Battle of Yamazaki, twelve days after the Incident at Honnō-ji. The Akechi clan then fell from prominence. This is the kamon (family crest) of the Akechi clan, Japanese bellflower. Below the crest is “Akechi” in kanji.
