Description: The Wandering Albatross does not require land. It requires ocean — the Southern Ocean specifically, the roaring forties and howling fifties, the uninterrupted fetch of the world's longest wind. It spends years at sea between breeding seasons, sleeping on the water, flying without a wingbeat for hours at a time, covering distances in a week that most birds do not cover in a lifetime. "The Pelagic Nomad" is for the offshore sailors, the deep-sea fishermen, and the serious birders who have watched one from the deck of a vessel far enough from shore that the shore is a concept rather than a location — and understood, in that moment, exactly who owns the open ocean.
Description: I created this piece several years ago, expressing my personal experience with sitting meditation and noticing, or accepting, impermanence, or forms of "death." Death doesn't always have to be physical. It could be death from a particular group of friends, death from a certain way of thinking, or the end of how you take care of your body.
