In Japan, as earlier in China, the mythical Phoenix was adopted as a symbol of the imperial household, particularily the empress. This mythical bird represents fire, the sun, justice, obedience, fidelity, and the southern star constellations. According to legend (mostly from China), the Hō-ō appears very rarely, and only to mark the beginning of a new era -- the birth of a virtuous ruler, for example. In other traditions, the Hō-ō appears only in peaceful and prosperous times (nesting, it is said, in paulownia trees), and hides itself when there is trouble. As the herald of a new age, the Hō-ō decends from heaven to earth to do good deeds, and then it returns to its celestial abode to await a new era.

"The House of the Rising Sun" is a traditional folk song, sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues". It tells of a person's life gone wrong in the city of New Orleans. Many versions also urge a sibling or parents and children to avoid the same fate. The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the British rock band The Animals, was a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and in the US and Canada. As a traditional folk song recorded by an electric rock band, it has been described as the "first folk rock hit". The song was first collected in Appalachia in the 1930s, but probably has its roots in traditional English folk song. It is listed as number 6393 in the Roud Folk Song Index.

The legend of the phoenix. A mythical bird that lives for an eternity in cycles of 500 to 1000 years, ending every life cycle by igniting in flames and turning to ash, only to be reborn from the very ashes itself. It's rebirth as a stronger and more powerful entity. Stories of the phoenix have been told as far back as ancient Egyptian times. This is a very personal piece. It's one that I have needed to create for a long time. It's also one that I didn't know how to create, or even if I would be able to. Rising (also known as Rainbow Rising) is the second studio album by the British-American heavy metal band Rainbow that was released on May 17, 1976.
