Retro styled Bangor and Aroostook Railroad defunct Maine railway

Minor league baseball began in Bangor, Maine with the 1894 Bangor Millionaires, who became members of the eight–team New England League. In the 1894 season, the Millionaires finished with a 48–48 record and placed 4th in the league final standings. Bangor was managed by Louis Bacon and Jack Sharrott, finishing 13.5 games behind the 1st place Fall River Indians. Bangor continued play in the 1895 Class B level New England League, placing 3rd in the league standings. The Millionaires ended the season with a 55–49 record under managers Jack Sharrott and William Long, finishing 11.0 games behind the 1st place Falls River Indians.

The Bangor Lumberjacks were the second of two failed attempts to establish low-level professional baseball in (or at least “near”) Bangor, Maine during the independent baseball boom of the 1990’s and early 21st century. Both the Lumberjacks and their predecessor, the Bangor Blue Ox (1996-1997), had a brand identity closely connected to Paul Bunyan folklore. Bangor claims to be the birthplace of the mythic logger and has a gargantuan statue of the woodsman in a downtown park

The Bangor Blue Ox were a short-lived professional baseball team that played for two seasons in the independent Northeast League. At the time, Bangor (pop. 33,000) had not hosted pro baseball since prior to World War I. The team’s unique nickname derived from the legend of Paul Bunyan and his companion Babe, the Blue Ox. Bangor is one of several communities that claims to be the birthplace of the folkloric hero and the city bosts a 31-foot tall, 3,700-pount statue of Bunyan.

Often in the morning ~ I get in the car and follow the light... this morning was one of them..! I had three sites in mind, but without looking at any apps - I was more or less flying blind as to where sunrise would occur... I just followed the light and the clouds and stumbled upon this area as a setting... The tall masts visible on the horizon offered a focus point for accuracy and pulled on my eye with the sunlight piercing through the clouds, yet gently shadowed by a large cloud structure... giving rise to an early morning feeling and low light... The blues and the yellows working well as contrasting colours - accented in post...

I have no hesitation in saying that I shot this image with a bargain of a lens that I bought from Paul at Cambrian Photography in their vintage clearout clearance sale! I hunted around in boxes and boxes and more boxes to see what I could find and lone behold I found a wonderfully compact highly pocketable "Asahi Pentax Takumar" 200m f/5.6 lens in near mint condition - which now sits in my camera bag wherever I go for those less than simple further reach shots... and my word, what a superb little lens it is !!! Married with a full frame Sony A7 24.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and properly stabilised with a sturdy tripod... You can get some wonderful images with this little lens...
