The Oakland Oaks were a charter member of the original American Basketball Association and the first West Coast basketball team to win a major professional championship. Formed in February 1967, the team played in the ABA during the 1967–68 and 1968–69 seasons at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The team colors were green and gold. The team was sold and moved to Washington, D.C. for the 1969–70 season, where it was renamed the Washington Caps.

Formed in February 1967, the team played in the ABA during the 1967–68 and 1968–69, winning the 1969 title. The team colors were green and gold.

The San Francisco Saints were a professional basketball team in Abe Saperstein’s upstart American Basketball League in the early '60s. The Saints finished 38-38 in their one and only season of play and lost to the eventual champion Cleveland Pipers in the playoff quarterfinal. In July of '62, owner George McKeon announced that the Saints would not return to the league. The franchise relocated across the Bay to Oakland, being renamed as the Oakland Oaks for the '62-'63 season. The ABL’s sophomore campaign was cut short due to financial difficulties, and the league folded on December 31, 1962.

The San Francisco Pioneers were an expansion franchise in the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WBL) in 1979. Started the dream that was women's basketball. The team lasted two seasons until the league folded in 1981.
