Evinrude Outboard Motors was a North American company that built a major brand of outboard motors for boats. Founded by Ole Evinrude in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1907, it was formerly owned by the publicly traded Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) since 1935 but OMC filed for bankruptcy in 2000. It was working as a subsidiary of Canadian Multinational Bombardier Recreational Products but was discontinued in May of 2020.

Born June 4, 1906, in Mequon, Wis., Kiekhaefer was always attracted to machines and had a drive to understand how things worked. After leaving his family’s farm to pursue a career in electrical engineering and manufacturing he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering for one year. Later, he continued his education at the University of Wisconsin extension. Despite not receiving a formal degree until later in life, Carl became an electrical engineer and changed the standards for marine engines.

Venolia Pistons entered the speed equipment market back in 1946 and went on to play an integral part throughout decades of racing history. From countless speed records, both on land and at sea, to numerous national and international racing championships, Venolia Pistons has more than proven their mettle.

The Kiekhaefer Mercury company began in 1939 when engineer Carl Kiekhaefer purchased a small outboard motor company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Kiekhaefer's original intention for the Kiekhaefer Corporation was to make magnetic separators for the dairy industry. The purchase included 300 defective outboard motors. Kiekhaefer and a small staff of employees rebuilt the motors and sold them to Montgomery Ward, a mail-order company. The motors were much improved, so the buyer purchased more. Kiekhaefer designed motors that withstood the elements better than his competition and called the motor Mercury (taking advantage of the "Mercury" Motor Car popularity at the time) whilst adopting the logo of the Roman god Mercury.

In 1948, the first Skeeter Bass Boat was built by Holmes Thurman in Shreveport, LA. It was just over 13-feet long, made of molded marine plywood with a flat bottom and tumblehome side decks. The boats were named Skeeter because their long, needle-shaped nose resembled a mosquito. In the 50s Skeeter became one of the first innovators to use fiberglass in boat construction. Fiberglass made it possible for more sizes and styles to be produced in much larger numbers. Throughout the South, many of these early models are still in use today by avid Skeeter fishermen.

Elgin boats, trailers, and outboards were sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co. but were built by a variety of manufacturers. The line of outboard motors were built by West Bend and later by Scott-McCulloch; boats were supplied by manufacturers such as Cutter, Whitehouse, Glasspar, and Arkansas Traveler. Trailers were made by companies such as Seminole in Florida. From 1960 on, Elgin offered only a two HP model built by West Bend, switching to a lineup primarily of outboards made by Scott. West Bend-made motors can be distinguished by a 571- serial number prefix; the Scott-made motors by a 574- prefix. In later years, the Elgin brand was dropped entirely and boats and motors were marked as Sears.

Carolina Classic designs and builds boats with familiar hull types including deep vee, modified vee and other. Glastron is a boat manufacturing company and was one of the first manufacturers of fiberglass boats. Bob Hammond, Bill Gaston, Bob Shoop, and Guy Woodard founded this company on October 14, 1956 in Austin, Texas. It was sold to Genmar Holdings in the 1990s and manufacturing was moved to Minnesota.[citation needed] Glastron is known for its boat hull design innovations, including the Aqualift and "SSV" hull designs, the latter of which is still in use today. Glastron's "Glastonbury" boats were featured in the James Bond film Live and Let Die. A boat chase was filmed in Louisiana around the Irish Bayou area. Twenty-six boats were built by Glastron for the film, of which seventeen were destroyed during rehearsals.

1913 It All Began Here Paul Larson took to boats at the young age of 11, building his first boat on his family farm in Little Falls, Minnesota. He built duck and fishing boats for friends and local community members. 1920's Gaining Steam An increasing demand for his new boats pushed Paul to create his own factory, Larson Boat Works, which stayed strong in the face of the Great Depression. 1930's Wartime Work Paul's plant doubled in size this decade. He also introduced a line of wooden boats and contributed to U.S. efforts in World War II by building training boats and wooden shell cases.

The Hiawatha Outboard was sold by the Gamble-Skogmo Auto and Department stores. Hiawatha was their own brand name. Outboards were manufactured by Gale Products and Scott Atwater. The sales years were from 1941 through 1961. In 1969 the Hiawatha brand name re-surfaced, these outboards were made by Eska.

It seems the Champion Outboard name has been around from 1927 through 1957. The story starts in 1927 with three gentlemen from St. Paul, Minnesota. Mr.Henry Dolan, Sig Conrad and Dutch Witch. In 1928 they sold the "Champion" name to Flour City Ornamental Iron Co. and they produced the motor in Minneapolis, Minnesota for many years. Champion Outboard Motor was really founded in 1935. Original founders were Stanley Grey and Earl DuMonte. Mr. DuMonte contracted with a small tool and punch press operation to manufacture their outboard.
