Description: Enfield Cycle Co. Ltd., like many early motorcycle manufacturers, has its origins in bicycles, but it also supplied firearms parts to the British government’s Royal Small Arms Factory which is likely the source of their 'made like a gun' tagline. It created its brand name simply by combining the rather impressive-sounding 'Royal' and the name of the town in which the factory was located - Enfield, England. Their first motorcycle was essentially one of their existing production bicycles with an engine bolted to the front downtube that was produced in 1901. The company went on to create numerous models over the years, but one of the most notable ones holds the title as the longest-lived production motorcycle design in history - the Bullet.

Description: Held on August 2, 1981, at the legendary Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England, the 1981 British Motorcycle Grand Prix was a high-speed showdown featuring some of the biggest names in international motorcycle racing. The premier 500cc class included legendary riders Kenny Roberts, Barry Sheene, Randy Mamola, and Graeme Crosby, all battling aboard brutally powerful two-stroke racing machines. But the day's biggest surprise came courtesy of Dutch privateer Jack Middelburg, who rode his RG500 to a stunning victory, narrowly defeating three-time world champion Kenny Roberts by just three-tenths of a second. Middelburg's unlikely triumph would go down in racing history as the last 500cc GP win by a true privateer.
