Bug Tapestries
Description: I was lucky enough to see this beautiful cicada break free of his shell and start climbing up the sycamore tree in our front yard. He still had moisture on his wings, and they looked iridescent like stained glass! Cicadas have long been symbols of rebirth, longevity, reflection, change, resurrection and immortality.
Description: Heraldry, entomology, and general nerdery collide in Valorous Beasties, a series of designs inspired by coats of arms, distinctive unit insignia, and BUGS. Periodic cicadas are known for their long periods of domancy--between 13 and 17 years--a trick that is thought to thwart would-be predators by either starving them out or overwhelming them with sheer numbers when the cicadas emerge. This crest bears the motto "tempore quaeque suo qui facit; ille sapit" or "the wise person is the one who does everything in its proper time," attributed to Ovid.
Description: The praying mantis is a carnivorous insect that is found in tropical and subtropical climates around the world, known for its long, slender body and its raptorial forelegs, which it uses to catch and devour its prey. The praying mantis is an important part of the insect ecosystem, and it helps to control populations of other insects.
Description: Here is a great example of the super retro Captain Raid as he protects your home from the hapless gang of bugs he would routinely dispense from the world. Those bugs really knew how to have a good time and looking back, these bugs seem like the forerunners to the booger guys in the ads of today.
