The Bowtie 327-cubic inch V8 originated with the small-block family of engines that first appeared in 1955 with a 265 cubic inch power plant. Following with a 283 cubic inch version that appeared in 1957, the mighty 327-inch small block made its debut in 1962. Although the 327 was eventually superseded by the 350 across the entire product line, the intermediate displacement 327 was used in just about every model on the market between 1962 and 1969. During its eight-year run, the potent 327 became known among small-block aficionados as the “mighty mouse" as it was extremely compact, highly efficient, and very powerful.

Some people mistakenly think ‘Cuda is just a nickname for the Plymouth Barracuda, and while the cars are related, they're leagues apart. Plymouth launched the ‘Cuda as a more performance-oriented version of the Barracuda back in 1969. Barracudas had been around for years before that and were known as an economy car from the early days, but as the muscle car wars heated up, it was time to really push the envelope and the 'Cuda models were finally able to shed the economy car reputation and come into a class of their own.

With the Ranchero selling well, the El Camino returned on the proven Chevelle platform in 1964 after a hiatus of several years. The second-generation variant leaned more toward practicality, but also had the option of packing a 327 cubic inch small-block V8 rated up to 300 hp in 1964. In 1965, a performance version of the V8 was available that pushed it up to 350 hp. This trend of growing engines continued over the next few years, culminating in a 396 V8 big block rated up to 375 hp.

The Oldsmobile 4-4-2 (also known as the 442) is a muscle car that was originally introduced as an option package for US-sold F-85 and Cutlass models, but became a model in its own right from 1968 to 1971, spawned the Hurst/Olds in 1968, then reverted to an option through the mid-1970s. The "4-4-2" name (pronounced "Four-four-two") derives from the original car's four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, and dual exhaust system. This muscle car crazy style design celebrates these legendary performers that were well-known to tear it up both on the street and on the track.

What do you get when you mash up hot rods and monsters? In 1980, the answer would have been Weird Wheels trading card stickers. Featuring a checklist of colorful creations along the lines of the late '60s Odd Rods cards, the set blends Kustom Kulture with matinée horror. The cards themselves have monsters and other creatures driving absurdly customized cars, trucks, and motorcycles. As cool as the cards looked, they came out at a time when the Kustom Kulture was well past its peak, and the set flopped, but that doesn't mean they're still not cool! This one features the reaper from the outer packaging tearing it up in his '37 DeLuxe Cabriolet.

Irwindale Raceway, was located unironically in Irwindale, California, and opened up in 1965 just after the San Gabriel Drag Strip closed in 1963. Compared to the likes of Orange County and Lions, Irwindale wasn’t a fancy track by any means, but had its charms to say the least. Irwindale the place to be in Southern California on a Saturday night and thanks to the (then) remote location, they ran well into the small hours and the crowds were there for it! Like all too many drag strips, pressure by development ruined a good thing. In 1977, the City of Irwindale bought the property and essentially gave it away for development of a large brewery facility.
