Cambois Tapestries

Cambois is a former mining village in South East Northumberland situated between the mouth of the River Wansbeck in the north and the estuary of the River Blyth in the south. There has been a settlement in Cambois since medieval times but the village had its heyday in the middle of the nineteenth century with the establishment of Cambois Colliery. A lot of the spoil from the colliery ended upon the beach but with the end of mining, the beach is now pristine and very popular with dog walkers. This image was taken just after daybreak on a cold January morning.

Cambois is a small community almost cut off from the rest of the county by the River Blyth on one side and the North Sea on the other. It boasts a lovely quiet beach which is much loved by fishermen and dog walkers alike. Strong winds and rough seas at the end of February produced some spectacular sights as the waves crashed against the piers protecting the mouth of the River Blyth at the entrance to the Port of Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England.

A sunny February morning on the beach at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. There is a four mile stretch of sandy beach between the tidal harbour at Seaton Sluice and the mouth of the River Blyth with its piers and lighthouse, this image was shot from the dunes at the Seaton Sluice end looking north towards Blyth taking in the full sweep of the bay under a lovely blue sky.
