Description: The Tully monster was a soft-bodied, aquatic creature that lived about 300 million years ago and is Illinois' official state fossil. It was about a foot long with a torpedo-shaped body, a long snout with a claw-like mouth, and two eyes on stalks. While some research in 2016 suggested it was a type of jawless fish, its classification remains a mystery, with other studies arguing for an invertebrate or a completely different lineage I miss them a lot.

Description: A trilobite found in deposits near Saint Petersburg Russia. It first appeared on the fossil record about 500 million years ago, and died out around 390 million years ago, it was discovered around 1845. Sadly there isn’t as much specific info on this one, but there are more than 20,000 currently identified Trilobite species, and not all of them has as much info as others.
Description: A species of trilobite from the Upper Ordovician, about 445 million years ago, it was discovered in 1838 by an American geologist and paleontologist named James Hall, in the Beecher’s Trilobite Bed in Rome, New York. These specimens were particularly well preserved with even soft body parts preserved in iron pyrite (fools gold). The fossilisation was so good that scientists were able to study their legs, gills, antennae, digestive system, and even some eggs. As a result of this exquisite preservation, this species is often referenced as the standard for scientific text describing trilobite anatomy. Triarthus was a small animal, on’y about 2 inches in length, but that is pretty average among most species of trilobite.

The fossils, which were originally thought to belong to separate animals, were ultimately found to be parts of a single animal. Anomalocaris was among the first of the great apex predators to swim the Earth's oceans. Though it was not overly large by present standards, back in the Cambrian Period it was a giant! Fossils of this famous animal have been found in rock formations throughout the world, most notably the Burgess Shale.
