I was surprised to see a pair of blue croc shoes and a lone red one placed on the stairs, weighted with stones to keep them in place. At the top of the stairs is a parking lot and at the bottom a rocky beach. Oddly there was no one on the beach nor in the parking lot. Leaves me with the impression there is a bit of a mystery here. Merchant Mariners Memorial Sydney Nova Scotia 2 © Debra Martz This sculpture on the waterfront recognizes the wartime contributions of the merchant navy. During WWII, Sydney became an assembly port for materials needed for war and was often referred to as the lifeline to Europe. The convoys shipping these materials were often on merchant ships never intended for the open seas. Voyage after voyage they saw dozens of ships go down. I’ve been adventuring for almost a year and am enjoying discovering new places. While exploring Nova Scotia, I traveled to Cape Breton Island and the Margaree Valley. This moody haunting nature landscape was taken there in November.
