Description: This is an image of the tall Gothic-arched windows in the Lady Chapel adjacent to Ely Cathedral, in Cambridgeshire, England. The intricate tracery allows natural light to flood into chapel's interior. The architecture showcases the ornate stonework and a majestic sense of space. Built in the 14th century, the chapel sits next to the cathedral. When we were there, it looked as if they were setting up for a choral presentation, which only shows that if you build something that is truly useful, those who follow will look after it, even after 700 years.
Description: This image is of Saint Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. I was really taken with the magnificent roof with its zigzagging stripped tiles of green, grey, black, and even some yellow. What a lot of work to construct such a roof, but also look a what it sits atop: the Romanesque tower and the Gothic elements. A stunning piece of medieval architecture.

Description: "Historic Facade of Saint Boniface Cathedral Winnipeg" During a summer visit to Winnipeg, I stopped to photograph the striking facade of Saint Boniface Cathedral. The preserved stone front, all that remained after a 1968 fire, now stands before the modern cathedral built behind it, creating a remarkable blend of history, resilience, and architectural beauty. Description: On July 22, 1968, the cathedral was damaged by a fire that destroyed many of the structure's features and contents, including the rose window, vestments, 1860 bells, and parish records. Only the facade and the walls of the old church remained. In 1972, a new, smaller cathedral was built incorporating the back wall, which was directly behind where I stood to take this photograph. Description: This architectural, monochrome photograph was taken on 9 April 2026 during my Easter trip in the late afternoon using a NIKON D800 (lens: NIKKOR 24.0–70.0 mm f/2.8). The abstraction of the colour tones into classic black and white lends the architectural motif an elegant and timeless atmosphere. The Basilica della Trasfigurazione – better known as the Cathedral of Cefalù – is the town’s landmark and a must-see for every visitor to Cefalù. The cathedral is the product of endeavours over several centuries, the oldest parts are from the 11th century, but its history through some of the greatest social upheavals in British history, bear testament to its ongoing social importance.

Built in the 12th century, it had a matching transept on the northwest corner, which alas collapsed due to subsidence. Nevertheless, this remaining transept, abutting the West Tower, exhibits a variety of styles. Although the walls of the transept are not uniform in style, on the whole they are a delight to witness.
