Celtic Stag Tapestries
Description: White stags have played a role in many mythologies and legends, especially in the North. The Celts believed them to be messengers from the otherworld. The white stag’s appearance would be an omen for whoever sighted it. The legends of King Arthur indicated that the white stag had a supernatural ability to avoid capture, and pursuit of the magical beast was akin to a spiritual quest.
Description: I did this bull elk in what could be called a Neo-Celtic or Neo-Nordic style. The stippling and knots are more traditional, but the image has a modern edginess to it. Elk and other antlered species have been a popular archetype representing strength, power, and virility going back to ancient times.

Description: A striking blackwork stag rendered with elegant tribal curves and sweeping antlers. The flowing silhouette transforms the deer’s head, neck, and impressive rack into bold organic lines, creating a graceful balance of strength and movement. Inspired by wildlife, woodland symbolism, and tribal-style illustration, this minimalist monochrome artwork captures the proud and mysterious character of a majestic stag with a clean, dramatic
Description: This design is based off one of the most famous panels of the Gundestrup Cauldron. It depicts the god-- often identified as Cernunnos-- holding a torc in one hand and a snake in the other. I've recreated the design in my own style making a unique take on this famous piece of Celtic/La Tene art!
Description: "..In the light of the rising moon Shaman sits by the fire. His gaze is focused at the flame but he sees and hears everything in the lands of his tribe. He sees fish in the river and a snake curled in grass and how the beast grabbed the prey... And he sees the whole path of generations of his folk - from long gone forebears to unborn descendants, whose fate is kept by the sacred bird... "
Description: Cernunnos is the “Horned One”, a Celtic god associated with sexuality, fertility, the hunt, and the underworld. He was worshiped as the “lord of wild things” by the iron age Celts all across Europe as late as the first century, but his worship began centuries before that. Cernunnos is nearly always portrayed with animals, in particular the stag. He alternates with the goddess of the moon in ruling over life and death, continuing the cycle of death, rebirth and reincarnation.
Description: This design is based off of a panel from the famous Celtic/La Tene style Gundestrup Cauldron. The scene depicts a god with antlers-- often identified as Cernunnos-- surrounded by various wild animals. I've recreated this design in my own style as a hand-carved block print then printed it by hand in black ink before scanning the print to make it a shirt design.
Description: A lord of the ancient forests, a spirit that walks between the trees and the worlds. This is no ordinary stag. With a third eye open upon its brow, this mystical creature sees beyond the physical realm into the very heart of nature's magic. It is a powerful symbol of intuition, spiritual awareness, and the wild, untamed wisdom of the earth.
