Description: Croydon Airport was the UK's main international airport in the 1920s and 30s. It was home to Britain's first national airline, Imperial Airways. During the second world war, the airport was used for military operations and was known as RAF Croydon. After 1945, the airport resumed its civilian role, but lack of suitable land for expansion meant that Heathrow became London's main airport. The former terminal building and control tower at Airport House, along Purley Way, remains a local landmark and houses a small museum. The static aircraft outside is a De Havilland DH114 Heron 1B.
