Description: In Dana Point, California, Bill Richards and his son Mark invented the first skateboard in 1958 by attaching a set of roller skate trucks and wheels to a wooden board. The Richards’ began selling their boards at their North Hollywood surf shop for $8 a piece in 1959, calling them 'Roller Derby Skate Boards.'
