Description: Pancit, also spelled pansít, is a general term referring to various traditional noodle dishes in Filipino cuisine. There are numerous types of pancit, often named based on the noodles used, method of cooking, place of origin or the ingredients. The phrase “this is it, pancit” is an expression that’s often uttered when you need to finally face something you’ve been anticipating. Description: Kapeng barako (Spanish: café varraco or café verraco), also known as Barako coffee or Batangas coffee, is a coffee variety grown in the Philippines, in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite. It belongs to the species Coffea liberica. Barako in the languages of the Philippines means "stud", and is associated with the image of masculinity. Barako has a strong flavor and fragrance reminiscent of aniseed. They are considered endangered due to low production and demand. It is listed in the Ark of Taste international catalogue of endangered heritage foods by the Slow Food Movement. It was introduced to the Philippines in the 1740s by Spanish friars. The Philippines became one of the top four producers of coffee in the world in the 1880s.

Description: Siomai (show-mai) is the Filipino version of the traditional Chinese dumpling shumai. This dumpling is a popular street food item that is typically served with soy sauce, chili garlic, and a piece of calamansi. Description: Lumpia are various types of spring rolls from the Philippines. Lumpia are made of thin paper-like or crepe-like pastry skin called "lumpia wrapper" enveloping savory or sweet fillings. It is often served as an appetizer or snack, and might be served deep-fried or fresh (unfried). Description: Bawal umihi dito: It is an ubiquitous injunction in urban spaces, often boldly painted onto walls, and it translates to "it is forbidden to urinate here". The audience? Filipino men, many of whom continue to take the liberty of emptying their bladders in front of walls, electric posts, and yes, jeepney tires. Go to any densely-populated nooks of the metropolis and there's no denying the pungent odor of piss, which ironically juxtaposes with the aforementioned sign, as if to affirm its relevance by its violation. Description: Tagalog Republic (Filipino: Republika ng Katagalugan, more precisely "Republic of the Tagalog Nation/People"; Spanish: República Tagala) is a term used to refer to two revolutionary governments involved in the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire and the Philippine-American War. Its leader was one of the national heroes, Andres Bonifacio. The letter "I" in the middle is in "alibata" or ancient Tagalog script, and represents the letter "K," symbolizing "Kalayaan" or "freedom." Description: Halo-halo, also spelled haluhalo, Tagalog for "mix-mix", is a popular cold dessert in the Philippines made up of crushed ice, evaporated milk or coconut milk, and various ingredients including side dishes such as ube jam (ube halaya), sweetened kidney beans or garbanzos, coconut strips, sago, gulaman (agar), pinipig, boiled taro, leche flan, slices of fruit and root crop preserves. The dessert is topped with a scoop of ube ice cream. I remixed this design with the great wave as the ice in the halo-halo. Description: Tondo is a district located in Manila, Philippines. It is the largest, in terms of area and population, of Manila's sixteen districts, with a census-estimated 654,220 people in 2020. It consists of two congressional districts. It is also the second most densely populated district in the city. The name Tondo can be derived from its Old Tagalog name, Tundun as inscribed in the Laguna Copperplate Inscription of 900 AD, the earliest native document found within the Philippines. Dutch anthropologist Antoon Postma, the first to translate the copperplate, believes the term tundun originated from Sanskrit, which was used alongside Malay as a language of politics and religion in the area at the time.
