This design is based on an old Clipper Gasoline porcelain sign which features their signature yellow, green, and orange color combination along with their telltale Boeing 314 Clipper long-range flying boat above sunset lit ocean waves. Clipper apparently produced both automobile and aviation fuel during their time and are a rather rare brand to come across in the antique circles according to those who hunt down vintage gasoline and service station signs and memorabilia.

Mad Max is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film directed by George. Mel Gibson stars as "Mad" Max Rockatansky, a police officer turned vigilante in a near-future Australia in the midst of societal collapse. The Gilmore Oil Company was an independent oil company in California which was founded by Arthur Fremont Gilmore after he struck oil on his dairy farm in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles in 1903. His son, Earl Bell Gilmore, took over the family business and expanded its distribution network which, at its peak, operated over three thousand gas stations on the West Coast. He promoted the company in a flamboyant style with much advertising, branding, and sponsorship. Gilmore Blu-Green Gasoline was one of Gilmore's primary fuel products, marketing as 'premium gasoline at a standard price.'

EZ Serve Gasoline was a chain of franchised service stations throughout Southern California that provided products and services of the EZ Serve Oil Company. While they were only around for about 25 years, they are forever remembered as the place where Navin R. Johnson got a job (and place to live) in the 1979 movie, The Jerk. The EZ Serve station was located in Pasadena and owned by Harry Hartounian who gave Navin an apartment in the back. Navin was soon to be thrilled to find that he is listed in the local phone book under his new address, though not long after, a gun-wielding lunatic randomly flips through the phone book and picks "Johnson, Navin R." as his next random victim.

The Magnolia Petroleum Company was an early twentieth century petroleum company in Texas founded on April 24, 1911 by the Sealy family of Galveston, as a consolidation of several earlier companies. Standard Oil of New York (Socony) exchanged its stock for all of the Magnolia stock (except seven shares for the Directors) in December 1925 though it continued to operate as an affiliate of Socony. Socony merged with Vacuum Oil Company in 1931, becoming Socony-Vacuum Oil Company. Magnolia Petroleum continued to operate as a subsidiary of Socony-Vacuum. In 1959, Magnolia was fully incorporated into the Mobil division of Socony-Vacuum, which later changed its name to Socony Mobil and, ultimately to Mobil Oil Corporation.

Oil exploration in Michigan began with a discovery at Saginaw Field in 1925. As the oil there started to dwindle, it looked as if Michigan would soon be dry and no longer of interest to companies. But a new well found in Muskegon Field officially put the state on the map. The Muskegon Oil Company (now known as the Muskegon Development Company) was founded in 1926 by Charles Myler and Stanley Daniloff. Musgo was the official gasoline brand of the company. The company was only around about two years, so Muskgo signs today are very rare and highly sought after.

Chief Gasoline was created by the Inland Refinery in Spokane, Washington, which operated between 1939 and 1957. Inland had plans to open branded service stations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, each customized by state such as Washington Chief, Oregon Chief, etc. Inland opened the first station in Spokane and a second in Aberdeen, but shortly thereafter Inland was bought out by Wasatch Oil which scraped the Chief Gasoline plans altogether. The porcelain signs and other materials were all produced and ready for the new service stations and while most ended up in the landfill, a few survived making them prized collectibles of the gas stations that never were.
