Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini AKA Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American Catholic religious sister and saint. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a religious institute that was a major support to her fellow Italian immigrants to the United States. Cabrini was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1909. She was the first U.S. citizen to be canonized a saint by the Catholic Church.

Anna "Annie" Moore (April 24, 1874 - December 6, 1924) was an Irish emigrant to the United States in 1892, the first to pass through the Ellis Island facility in New York Harbor. She arrived from County Cork, Ireland, aboard the steamship Nevada on January 1, 1892. It was reported that her arrival was on her 15th birthday, but records in Ireland reveal that her birthday was in May and she was actually 17. Her brothers, Anthony and Philip, who journeyed with her, had just turned 15 and 12, respectively.
