Inscription Tapestries
Description: Runestone U 812 is a Viking-Age runestone from Hjälsta, Uppland, Sweden, dated approximately 1020–1050 CE. It is carved in the Ringerike style and stands about 1.30 m tall and 0.88 m wide. The surviving inscription translates approximately: “… his father. He died in England.” The beginning of the inscription is believed to have been carved on a now-lost stone.
Description: A charging bull stands above LEG IX HISPANA in deliberately rough, ochre earth-pigment lettering. The worn contours evoke an ancient painted or stamped emblem, not a polished modern logo. This period-inspired interpretation uses a light ochre ink intended for dark products; it is not an exact reconstruction of a surviving Roman standard. Transparent artwork lets the dark product color show through.
Description: A charging bull stands above LEG IX HISPANA in deliberately rough, earth-pigment lettering. The worn contours evoke an ancient painted or stamped emblem, not a polished modern logo. This is a period-inspired interpretation: a bull is associated with Legio IX Hispana in later sources, but this design is not an exact surviving Roman standard. Transparent artwork lets the product color show through.

Description: A Roman-inspired emblem dedicated to Legio V Macedonica, one of the longest-serving legions of the Empire. The inscription LEG · V follows authentic Roman abbreviation conventions, paired with MACEDONICA below.
Description: A charging bull and the inscription LEG X EQVESTRIS are rendered in warm ochre with rough contours, worn gaps, and uneven marks that evoke ancient Roman imagery. The historical treatment is period-inspired, not a modern polished logo. This original interpretation recalls the traditional bull emblem associated with Legio X Equestris; it is not an exact reconstruction of a surviving standard. The transparent artwork lets product colors show through.
Description: A scorpion stands above the compact COH PRAET inscription in dark earth pigment. The scorpion is associated with the Praetorian Guard, the soldiers who protected the Roman emperors. Uneven contours and worn gaps evoke the workmanship of an ancient hand-painted military mark. This original period-inspired drawing is a historical interpretation rather than an exact reconstruction of a surviving standard. Its transparent background lets the chosen product color show through; dark umber ink reads best on light colors.

Description: A bull and the LEG VIII AVG inscription take their cue from an ancient shield boss associated with Legio VIII Augusta. This original illustration uses uneven dark earth pigment and worn Roman lettering to suggest a mark made by hand in its own time, without the finish of a modern crest. It is a period-inspired interpretation, not an exact reproduction of the surviving object. The transparent background lets the product color show through; dark umber ink reads best on light colors.
Description: The elephant of Legio V Alaudae stands above the compact LEG V ALAUDAE inscription in dark earth pigment. Its emblem recalls the legion’s celebrated stand against enemy elephants at Thapsus in 46 BCE. Irregular contours and worn gaps give this original period-inspired illustration the character of an ancient hand-painted military mark rather than a polished modern crest. It is a historical interpretation, not an exact reconstruction of a surviving standard. The transparent background lets the product color show through; dark umber ink reads best on light colors.

Description: The lion associated with Legio XIII Gemina stands above the compact LEG XIII GEM inscription. Dark earth pigment, irregular contours and worn gaps give this original illustration the character of an old military mark instead of a polished contemporary crest. The lion is historically associated with the legion; this drawing is a period-inspired interpretation, not an exact reconstruction of a surviving standard. The transparent background lets the product color show through; dark umber ink reads best on light colors.
Description: A bull stands above the abbreviated LEG VI V inscription in dark earth pigment. Uneven contours and worn gaps evoke a hand-painted ancient mark rather than a polished modern logo. This original period-inspired illustration reflects a commonly proposed emblem for VI Victrix; the bull is not conclusively attested as the legion’s official standard. The transparent background lets the product color show through; dark umber ink reads best on light colors.
