However, Iowa's landscape, culture, and economy are diverse, with the economy changing in the second half of the 20th Century to include many kinds of business. Iowa has more than 3 million people as of the 2010 census. Its capital and largest city is Des Moines. Iowa became a state in 1846. It was the 29th state to join the United States.

Description: The Sioux City Soos was the name of the minor league baseball team based in Sioux City, Iowa, playing in various seasons between 1888 and 1960. The name "Soos" in baseball came from a shortening of Sault Ste. Marie and Sioux City, the names of the cities where minor league teams were based. It is an abbreviation used for brevity, particularly by local newspapers in headlines. The Sioux City Soos of 1947-1958 were the fourth and final baseball club to play under the “Soos” name in the northwest Iowa city. Earlier versions of the Soos played in 1904, 1908-1909, and 1940-1941.

He was inspired to paint what is now known as the American Gothic House in Eldon, Iowa, along with "the kind of people [he] fancied should live in that house". It depicts a farmer standing beside his daughter – often mistakenly assumed to be his wife.[1][2] The painting is named for the house's architectural style.
