Daytona Beach Islanders was a name for various minor league baseball teams that have all played in the Florida State League from 1920–1966 and in 1977 and again from 1985–1986. In 1968 through 1973, the team became the Daytona Beach Dodgers, due to their affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 1977, the team once again took up the Islanders name before becoming the Daytona Beach Astros for the next seven seasons. Then, for the 1985 and 1986 seasons, they were, yet again, known as the Daytona Beach Islanders, playing as a co-op club of the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers for the first of those years and as a full affiliate of the Rangers for the 1986 season. Finally the team became the Daytona Beach Admirals.

The Island of Championships

The Hawaii Islanders were a minor league baseball team based in Honolulu, Hawaii, that played in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League for 27 seasons from 1961 through 1987. Originally an affiliate of the Kansas City Athletics, the Islanders played their home games at Honolulu Stadium, Aloha Stadium and Les Murakami Stadium. After being one of the most successful minor league teams, the Islanders faltered and ultimately moved to the mainland as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in 1988.

From my original work titled, Lee the Straw Market Lady, a charcoal on paper drawing. While in a straw market in Nassau, I saw this lady weaving a thin ribbon into a straw hat in an effort to customize it. She also had a tropical shirt hanging in her booth I wanted to buy. Part of my bargaining with her was she had to agree to let me take some pictures of her working along with the price we settled on the shirt. Lee didn't mind that at all. In fact, she seemed really tickled by the whole thing. I didn't have my camera with me at the time so I had to go back to my villa to retrieve it. When I returned to take some photos, Lee and the other ladies there appeared surprised that I actually came back to take the photos.
