I spotted this beautiful bird for the first time this season. I'm sure it was posing. It stayed still, then gave me a look, then posed again before it took off.

My first encounter with a Tropical Kingbird at Boundary Bay Regional Park in beautiful Tsawwassen, British Columbia. An unusual visitor during Pacific Northwest autumn months, the Tropical Kingbird adds a cheery bit of color to the fall with its striking butter yellow belly. This dazzling creature was relaxing in the early afternoon sun while a host of wildlife photographers quietly snapped away. Photographed in late October 2023.

Couch's Kingbird - Dragonfly for Lunch by Debra Martz We heard this kingbird calling as it flew through the treetops around noon at Estero LLano Grande State Park. Finally it landed up high, looked around for awhile, then swooped down and caught this dragonfly. This huge dragonfly!! It worked on it for a while, tossing and tapping on the limb in an effort to try and remove the wings. But in the end, ate the dragonfly, wings and all!!

Eastern Kingbird in the Country by Dbebra Martz I had just turned onto the gravel road that leads to the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge when I saw this Kingbird snatch an insect from the air and then return to this fence wire. So I stopped the vehicle and slowly opened the door. It sat there a few extra seconds after I was out of the truck and was able to compose and get a few shots before it flew off into the distance.
