Lausanne Tapestries

Dubbed the “Olympic Capital” with its state of the art Olympic Museum overlooking a majestic expanse of Lake Geneva and mountain vistas looming in the background, Lausanne is a vibrant city populating three hills with historic cathedrals and hotels interconnected with cobbled streets.

At the heart of the old town, the majestic Lausanne Cathedral overlooks the city. Seen as one of the most beautiful gothic art monuments in Europe, it attracts more than 400,000 visitors every year. As the spiritual capital of French-speaking Switzerland, the Cathedral of Lausanne is of interest to people from all parts of the world. Constructed during the XIIth and XIIIth centuries, consecrated 20th October 1275 in the presence of Pope Gregory X and Rudolf of Habsburg. It became a protestant cathedral in 1536.

The location is unique - inside medieval and cosy, outside cool and relaxed. The cuisine is original, light and fresh re-interpretation of traditional dishes (some medieval like the walls) with an obsession for local producers. Quite commendable if not cheap.

This romantic scenery has inspired many artists and celebrities, with some having settled here permanently. It is an immense stretch of water that changes colour with the passing of each hour, the sky and the water sometimes appearing to merge into one. Surrounded by the terraced vineyards of Lavaux and La Côte on one side and by the majestically towering snow-coated Alps on the other, Lake Geneva (known locally as Lac Léman) never ceases to captivate local residents, whether they live on the French or the Swiss side (the frontier cuts through the middle of the lake), and visiting tourists.
