Description: Lord Nelson - Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, also known simply as Admiral Nelson, was a British flag officer in the Royal Navy. His inspirational leadership, grasp of strategy, and unconventional tactics brought about a number of decisive British naval victories, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. He was wounded in combat, losing sight in one eye in Corsica at the age of 35, and most of one arm in the unsuccessful attempt to conquer Santa Cruz de Tenerife when he was 40. He was fatally shot during his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

It pitted Napoleon's French forces against a coalition of British, Prussian, Dutch, and German troops led by the Duke of Wellington and Marshal Blücher. The battle resulted in a crushing defeat for Napoleon, marking the end of his imperial ambitions and leading to his exile on St. Helena.
Description: Battle of Waterloo - The Duchess of Richmond's Ball was a ball hosted by Charlotte Lennox, Duchess of Richmond, in Brussels on the 15th of June 1815, the night before the Battle of Quatre Bras. Charlotte's husband Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, was in command of a reserve force in Brussels, which was protecting that city in case Napoleon Bonaparte invaded. It was descibed as "the most famous ball in history". The ball was interrupted soon after the arrival of the Duke of Wellington, when he was notified of Napoleon's unexpected advance on the nearby crossroads of Quatre Bras. This forced him to depart after ordering his officers to leave to join their regiments, and would soon fight at the Battle of Waterloo.

La Haye Sainte was defended by about 400 King's German Legion troops during the Battle of Waterloo. Being greatly outnumbered by attacking French forces, the defenders held out until the late afternoon when they retired as their ammunition had run out. If Napoleon Bonaparte's army had captured La Haye Sainte earlier in the day, he would have almost certainly broken through the allied centre and defeated the Duke of Wellington's army.
