Having seen the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral lit up at night on the way from the airport to my apartment on Rue Dauphine, it became my first choice of photographic subjects in Paris. It was my first 'wow' moment in a fantastic trip & looked just as good in daylight with spring blossoms to enhance the view. Photographed with a Canon 400D in Paris, France. HDR image tonemapped in Photomatix. I took a total of 1770 photos during a 9 day whirlwind trip to Paris & London. A poet, writer, playwright, and statesman of The Third Republic, Hugo was one of the best French artists of his time. Everybody heard of his novels Les Misarables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

That glass could pierce a wall supporting tons of stone is a quintessentially Gothic architectural feat accomplished by traversing apertures with visually delicate but structurally strong webs of stone that break the glass into smaller shapes in a symmetrical way, distributing weight equally across the perforated wall, creating the impression of a curtain of light.Notre Dame's north transept wall, consisting of a rose window surmounting 18 lancet windows, was built ca. 1250-1260 while Jean de Chelles was architect.Most of the original 13th C. glasswork is still intact, filtering light into a rainbow of blues, reds, greens, browns and yellows.
