Ohio Tapestries

The Ohio Mixers, were a professional basketball team based in Lima, Ohio from 1982 to 1984 in the Continental Basketball Association. The team was admitted into the CBA as an expansion franchise in 1982. Team owner Tom Sawyer served as the Mixers' head coach during their two season.

The Cincinnati Mohawks were a professional ice hockey team in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were a member of the American Hockey League (AHL) between 1949 and 1952. They were founded as the Washington Lions, then were relocated from Washington, D.C.

The Toledo Goaldiggers were a minor professional ice hockey club based in Toledo, Ohio from 1974–1986. They played in the International Hockey League (IHL).

According to various legends, the Loveland Frogman was first sighted by a traveling salesman driving along an unnamed Loveland, Ohio road late at night in 1955. In one story, the driver was heading out of the Branch Hill neighborhood when he spotted three figures stood erect on their hind legs along the side of the road, each 3 to 4 feet in height, with leathery skin and frog faces. In other versions of the story, the creatures were spotted under or over a poorly lit bridge, and one held a wand over its head that fired a spray of sparks. In 1972, the Loveland Frogman legend gained renewed attention when a Loveland police officer reported to a colleague that he had seen an animal consistent with descriptions of the frogman.

The Dayton Gems were a professional ice hockey team based in Dayton, Ohio, in the Central Hockey League. The team was originally a member of the International Hockey League before it merged into the CHL. The team was established in 2009 and joined the IHL for the 2009–10 season, where it played three seasons until 2012. The team was named after the original Dayton Gems of the original International Hockey League.

In the early 1980s, entertainment restaurants blossomed after the Chuck E. Cheese chain defined the genre. Their immediate success inspired a gaggle of imitators, all with kid-friendly mixes of pizza, video games, and animatronic characters who sang and danced as parents ate pizza and kids ran around like maniacs. Major Magic's All Star Pizza Revue was one such imitator which opened in 1983 in the Toledo, Ohio suburb of Sylvania and while most other chains in this space died off by the mid '90s, Major Magic marched along all the way until 2010 before finally retiring from service.

R.A. and F.D. Stranahan are essentially the founders of Champion Spark Plug Company. Sort of. At the very least, they ended up with the patent on the Champion name which they legally and wisely used to eventually create the largest spark plug manufacturing company in the world. But it certainly didn’t start out that way. More than 20 thousand dollars in debt, and with a company that was fledgling along at best, the brothers had little choice but to move to Toledo when Willys-Overland Motor Company offered R.A. and F.D. a contract under which Champion would become the exclusive spark plug of automobiles manufactured at Willys-Overland. The deal came with the stipulation that the Stranahans must make Toledo their home.

The Dayton Jets were an American minor professional ice hockey team in Dayton, Ohio. The Jets played in the Continental Hockey League for the 1985–86 season and the All-American Hockey League for the 1986–87 season. The club merged with the Troy Sabres to form the Miami Valley Sabres after the 1987 season.

The Cincinnati Stingers were an ice hockey team based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that played in the World Hockey Association from 1975 to 1979 and in the Central Hockey League during the 1979–80 season. Their home arena was Riverfront Coliseum (now known as U.S. Bank Arena), and they were the only major-league hockey team ever to play in Cincinnati.

The Toledo Mercurys are a defunct International Hockey League franchise from Toledo, Ohio. The Toledo Franchise was the first IHL franchise to be granted outside of the Windsor-Detroit area. The Mercurys existed 15 seasons in total from 1947 to 1962 with some minor naming variations. Toledo was the first IHL team to win multiple Turner Cup championships, and the first to do so consecutively.
