Old Ben Tapestries
Description: The Old Ben Coal Corporation was formed in 1875 as the Wilmington Star Coal Mining Company, but was renamed in 1912 in honor of Benjamin Franklin and Franklin County, Illinois, by DeWitt Buchanan. Old Ben originally sold their Old Ben brand of carbon, pea, and furnace coals, but eventually purchased the Christopher and Purity mines. Purity was a line of big lump coal and Christopher produced small egg, domestic chestnut, and cook stove coal.
