The Majestic Snow Covered Trees is a color photographic art print of snow covered trees next to a clearing. The setting is Redmond, Washington just outside of Seattle. Christmas Eve of 2017 the snow started with large fluffy flakes and continued into Christmas Day. The Seattle area can go an entire winter without snow (rain usually). It can happen a couple of times during the winter months, but it had been many years for the area to see a “White Christmas”. Mukilteo Lighthouse is an art print I created using a classic ink sketching and air brush watercolor technique. The setting is the Mukilteo Lighthouse on the east side of Possession Sound in Mukilteo, Washington. The lighthouse is an operational navigational aid north of Seattle and just south of Everett. The Mukilteo location also sits next to one of the ferry terminals serving auto and pedestrian commuters between the mainland and the numerous islands in the Pacific Northwest. Bent Bike was started in 1974 when four friends began buying and selling used motorcycles and parts out of an old gas station in Edmonds, Washington. It didn't take long before the guys began buying closeout, surplus, and bankruptcy stock and further expanded into new parts and riding gear. Having outgrown the old gas station, Bent Bike built a new building in 1980 just down the road in Lynnwood, and in 1984 opened a second location in Auburn. Despite the new buildings filled with new stock, Bent Bike never got out of the motorcycle salvage business, and continued to sell used parts, as well as used bikes throughout their 42 years in business.

The Great Seattle Fire destroyed the entire central business district of Seattle, Washington on June 6, 1889. Rising from the ashes like a phoenix on September 25, 1889, Washington Mutual was a sign of strength and resolve in a time of destruction and uncertainty. In 2007, a combination of subprime loans bundled as securities and sold on Wall Street to hungry investors, opaque financial derivatives that posed a systemic threat, an unsustainable housing boom, banking executives pulling fat bonuses to take on ever-more risk created the perfect recipe for disaster. By 2008, the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department were pressuring WaMu to find a buyer to avoid an FDIC takeover, but WaMu pushed on, ultimately failing in September of 2008.

The legend of Bigfoot goes back beyond recorded history and cover the world. In North America – and particularly the Pacific Northwest – you can hear tales of seven-foot-tall hairy men stalking the woods, occasionally scaring campers, lumberjacks, hikers, and the like. Bigfoot is known by many titles across various cultures, although Bigfoot is the name generally attributed to the Cascade Mountain region of North America. Settlers moving west began reporting sightings in the late 1800s, and have continued ever since, with footprints, encounters, and even a few grainy photos and videos adding to the mystery. Those who claim to have seen Bigfoot have described a large, upright ape, sometimes standing over eight feet tall.

When you're this small and round, even watching you eat is a cute experience! This Sanderling was foraging on the shoreline with 20 others of its kind, enjoying seaside dining on the remnants of clams that had been already picked apart by gulls.

A fruitless search for a Rufous hummingbird in the backyard yielded the consolation prize of an unexpected photo session with a beautiful, accommodating Western Tiger Swallowtail -- one of the largest and most iconic butterflies to grace the Pacific Northwest during the summer.

Mt Rainier is great for anyone who loves the outdoors and hiking at Mt Rainier. Wear it on the Skyline trail in Paradise, on the Wonderland trail, on the Pacific Crest Trail or past Comet Falls, it a great tee for Washington state. Give this as a gift to a hiker, thru hiker, mountaineer, camper, trail runner and mountain climber.

Totem Bowl opened in 1958 with 16 lanes midway between Kirkland and Redmond on Northeast 70th Street, which is also known as the Old Redmond Road, in what is best known these days as the Bridle Trails neighborhood. Sometime during the '70s, the bowling alley was expanded to 32 lanes to better accommodate the number of bowlers. For the first 40 years, the interior and exterior were decorated with mid-century Native American caricatures, and the lounge was named after Kaw-Liga, the cigar store Indian from an old country song. In 1997, the aging alley got a makeover, losing the Native American decor in favor of a modern theme and name that played off the region's tech industries, but to many, it was always known simply as Totem Bowl.

The Western Basketball Association was a one-year effort to create a Western counterpart & competitor to the country’s top minor basketball league, the Pennsylvania-based Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The WBA began play in the fall of 1978 with seven teams in Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Washington. All WBA franchises, including the Lumberjacks, folded during the summer of 1979.

Across the street at the northeast corner of Thomas and Broadway is the long-lived Checkerboard Café and Cocktail Lounge. From my years on Capitol Hill in the early 1970s I remember it as Ernie Steele’s Restaurant, with its dark bar, sportsman’s murals stained by decades of nicotine and deep frying, and that special smell that such places share and which no scented evergreen can cover.
