Clevedon Pier is one of the jewels of Victorian architecture - the sea of the Bristol Channel unfortunately is never blue but always some sort of dirt brownish color. That day a storm was approaching and the sea suddenly became this strange caramel brown which created a nice contrast with the dark sky and the bright green of the metal railing.

The Victorian pier of Penarth in Wales, UK, treated in sepia. The pier was opened in 1898 and was a popular attraction to seaside-goers at the time, who also enjoyed trips on pleasure steamers that operated from the pier. It has on several occasions been damaged by vessels colliding with the structure and in 1931, a fire broke out in one of the pavilions. This wooden pavilion was never replaced, but a concrete pavilion has been used over the years as a concert hall, ballroom, cinema and for other purposes. It is currently home to the Penarth Pier Pavilion. (Nikon Coolpix P510)

Clevedon pier boasts of a Japanese style Victorian Pagoda (late 19th century) which has been converted into a nice little café. Weather permitting one can even sit outside to enjoy a magnificent view over the Bristol Channel. Weather permitting...! (Nikon Coolpix P510)

I have no hesitation in saying that I shot this image with a bargain of a lens that I bought from Paul at Cambrian Photography in their vintage clearout clearance sale! I hunted around in boxes and boxes and more boxes to see what I could find and lone behold I found a wonderfully compact highly pocketable "Asahi Pentax Takumar" 200m f/5.6 lens in near mint condition - which now sits in my camera bag wherever I go for those less than simple further reach shots... and my word, what a superb little lens it is !!! Married with a full frame Sony A7 24.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and properly stabilised with a sturdy tripod... You can get some wonderful images with this little lens... Nikon D5200: lens: AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm Birnbeck Pier, situated on the Bristol Channel in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England, is the only pier in the country which links the mainland to an island, linking to Birnbeck Island, a rocky island just to the west of Worlebury Hill. The grade II* listed pier was designed by Eugenius Birch and opened in 1867. Part of the north pier collapsed during storms on 30 December 2015, and now The Victorian Society has included the pier on its list of the ten most endangered buildings of the country.
