Salish Tapestries

This Is Dedication To All Native Americans ! The decorations of this design inspired by visiting one of the reservations in Montana. Where lots of things used in everyday life are still hand and soul made . I'll try to do most names of tribes and peoples.

Original Olympic Peninsula graphic design by Eve Penman; featuring the names of the bodies of water surrounding the peninsula — Pacific Ocean, The Strait of Juan de Fuca, Hood Canal, Salish Sea, and Puget Sound — along with two landmarks, Cape Alava and Cape Flattery, written in the rays of a setting sun positioned in accordance with their geographic locations around the peninsula. Cool native tribal mexican totem mask.

In Tlingit culture, people belong to one of two houses - Raven clan or Eagle. Raven cannot marry Raven, and Eagle cannot marry Eagle. So when you see Raven and Eagle depicted together, they are called Love Birds. I took it a step further and designed them as a heart.

Raven Steals the Sun is a well known creation story all up and down the Pacific Northwest Coast, and one of my favorites as a kid growing up in Alaska.

Lumpsuckers (Eumicrotremus orbis) are some of my favorite fish in the Salish Sea. Their pelvic fins have evolved into a suction cup on their belly and instead of scales, they have cone-shaped plates, called tubercles. And they are cute!
