Red paper cut seaweed in the artists style of Matisse

After finishing this design, my mind drifted away to the ocean. Drawn with an inky pen on absorbent sketch paper, then converted to digital media and coloured.

The mysterious and diverse marine world with thousands of species of plants, animals, and other organisms has found its way to the many areas of human life - art, religion, literature, and so on.  In this artwork, we have captured the scallop shell surrounded with ornate seaweeds in art nouveau style. It has a seemingly simple form, but at the same time, there is a certain magic in its simplicity. Throughout antiquity, scallops and other hinged shells have symbolized the feminine principle, reflected in art as a symbol of Venus, the Roman goddess of love and fertility. This design we dedicated to all women in the world, their power, and their beauty.

Birding expedition to the Sub-Antarctic Islands of New Zealand and Macquarie Island of Australia. The Snares are World Heritage Listed. Canon 6D, zoom lens.
