Description: Lunokhod (Russian: Луноход, "Moonwalker") was a series of Soviet robotic lunar rovers designed to land on the Moon between 1969 and 1977. The Lunokhods were primarily designed to support the Soviet manned moon missions during Moon race. Instead, they were used as remote-controlled robots for exploration of the lunar surface and return its pictures after the successful Apollo manned lunar landings and cancellation of Soviet manned moon program. The Lunokhods were transported to the lunar surface by Luna spacecraft, which were launched by Proton-K rockets. Description: Sputnik 3 was a Soviet satellite launched on 15 May 1958 from Baikonur Cosmodrome by a modified R-7/SS-6 ICBM. The scientific satellite carried a large array of instruments for geophysical research of the upper atmosphere and near space. Sputnik 3 was the only Soviet satellite launched in 1958.
Description: This design comes from a Soviet propaganda poster from 1961, originally by Soviet graphic artists Oleg Dmitrievich Maslyakov (О. Д. Масляков) and Efim Semyonovich Tsvik (Е. С. Цвик) and published by the (confusingly named) publisher Soviet Artist. The text on the design reads: "6 August 1961" and the text at the bottom reads: "I dedicate my flight to you, XXII Party Congress! Cosmonaut Major Titov" which comes from his preflight statement. On 6 August 1961, Cosmonaut Gherman Titov's Vostok 2 was the second successful human orbital mission in history, following Yuri Gagarin's Vostok 1 four months earlier.
